    2 x 3 hour interactive sessions on Saturday and Sunday taught by Dawn Harvey through Zoom. The class is open to anyone anywhere in the world, as long as you can make the time work for you and can communicate successfully in English.

    While paper and e-book sales continue their steady downward decline, the audiobook industry continues to grow by leaps and bounds, increasing by approximately 20-25% year after year after year. This course is designed to help you navigate the path to finding and booking work in this fast-growing profession.

    The audiobook world is unlike any other in the voiceover and acting professions. This is publishing, not entertainment, and agents and casting directors have no place here. In “The Business of Audiobooks,” Dawn takes her students through the various methods of finding work in the world of authors, the public domain and publishers, both large and small. The class will cover topics such as:

    auditioning;

    demos;

    rates;

    union provisions and considerations;

    using ACX and other ways of connecting with independent authors;

    producing public domain works;

    connecting with publishers;

    networking;

    websites and other social media;

    marketing practices; and

    any other topics that arise from these discussions.

    Dawn Harvey has been teaching audiobook narration since 2014 and began directing audiobooks for a Canadian publisher in 2019. Dawn has always been passionate about sharing her knowledge, previously teaching classes in oil and gas law. She has taught her audiobook business and performance workshops multiple times throughout western Canada and began working with private students from across the country and around the globe in 2017.

    She has received several Earphone and SOVAS Awards for her audiobook work.

    Class fee: $295 + tax

    Musician Participant Fee: $675/person

    Conductor Participant Fee: $399/person

    Limited spots available.

    Payment Plan available.

    Spend five days with us this summer and immerse yourself in music and performance! We’re back in-person at the Winspear Centre with COVID-19 safety protocols in place. We've made modifications to adhere to AHS guidelines at camp which include a smaller ensemble size, frequent breaks, room for social distancing, and campers will bring their own meals.

    Summer Camp is designed for adult non-professional musicians. With expert instruction from members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and other professional musicians, this camp provides a unique opportunity for classes, rehearsals, and sectional instruction – all leading up to a performance on the stage of the Winspear Centre! We are pleased to have ESO Assistant Conductor and Community Ambassador, Cosette Justo Valdés leading the orchestra this summer.

    Join your fellow non-pros for five days of intense and fun orchestral study – and fall in love with making music all over again.

    Workshop Description

    ABSTRACTING THE LANDSCAPE in acrylic is for experienced beginner to intermediate level artists who would like to break out of realism, loosen up and to learn to abstract the landscape. Susan will guide us through several exercises to accomplish this, including color exercises to develop different palettes, value exercises to enhance design, the mechanics of building a painting and using line as an expressive tool. Susan will also include mark-making exercises and how to simplify our reference photos. We will then apply the above lessons to a larger canvas, introducing some texturing to the surface and experimenting with layers. We will have lots of individual time with Susan, and lots of time to paint. Includes demos and critiques and an atmosphere of encouragement and fun.

    This workshop will run through Zoom and we will have a private Facebook page set up for students to post their work after each day. Also, the demos will be recorded and will be available to students for two weeks after the end of the workshop.

    Location: Online through Zoom

    Dates: September 17-19, 2021    Friday, Saturday and Sunday   from 10 am to 1 pm  MOUNTAIN TIME

    Price: $240.
